Leeds on Fifth Gear

The newly promoted side to the premier league and the one-time runners up of the champions league are proving to be a force to reckon with.  Leeds who have won 5 matches in the 2020/2021 campaign have also scored 22 goals 5 less than Liverpool who are leading in goals scored.

Match week 13 has come with good fortunes for Marcelo Bielsa’s side after losing to west ham united at home in their previous match.  Leeds had a superb display and took command of their match with Newcastle both in ball possession and creation of goal scoring chances.

Newcastle united were the first to register on the score sheet in the 26th minute with a great finish from Jeff Hendrick.  The Newcastle midfielder volleyed the ball into the back of the net from a header provided by Callum Wilson.  Leeds equalized in the 35th minute, with a superb finish from their top scorer Patrick Bamford who took advantage of a loose ball after Rodrigo’s header hit the crossbar. Bamford has scored 9 goals this season just 2 goals away from the top scorer.

Leeds were back with purpose in the second half and their efforts gave them a goal in the 61st minute.  Jack Harrison put in a cross, which was headed into the back of the net by Rodrigo.  Newcastle united equalized from a corner kick delivered by Ryan Fraser and headed in by Ciaran Clark in the 65th minute.  Leeds attacking force was at it again when Mateusz Klich put in a cross that was headed by Stuart Dallas in the 77th minute.

Leeds pursuit for a victory did not end at the third goal; they took advantage of their ball passion and converted more goals. Azgjan Alioski got the better of Karl Darlow when he found himself in a one on one situation with Darlow to give Leeds their fourth goal in the 85th minute.  Three minutes later, Jack Harrison beat Darlow from outside the box to give the home side their 5th goal making it 5-2 in favor of the home side.

The result took Leeds to 17 points same as Newcastle but the visitors have a game at hand.
