The red devils added another win at the theatre of dreams after their pre-Christmas victory over Leeds united. Marcus Rashford netted the solitary late goal from a superb long pass delivered by their playmaker Bruno Fernandes. This was their 9th win of the season and the third win at old Trafford. Manchester United had not won against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the premier league since their return under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Both teams had not registered on the score sheet by the 90th minute, several chances were created by both teams. In the first half, David De Gea made several saves to deny Pedro Neto, Vitinha, and Ruben Neves chances of being on the score sheet. Another notable Wolves effort to score was from their defender Romain Saiss who hit the top of United’s bar at the Stretford End from a free-kick. United were also denied a chance when Bruno Fernandes’s effort was saved by his national side goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
In the second half, the red Devil’s striker Cavani netted a goal in the 69th minute but it was immediately ruled offside by the assistant referee. Cavani has not yet scored at Old Trafford.
The only goal of the match was a guarantee for united to occupy the second position on the league table behind Liverpool with only two points apart. Wolves dropped to 12th position with 21 points.
