Liverpool Shares With Newcastle

Liverpool’s visit to St. James park in the final premier league game of the year 2020 ended in a barren draw. Newcastle United became the first team to deny the Reds a chance to score in a match this season. The home side’s defense displayed a great performance.

Callum Wilson produced the biggest threat early in the first half with great dribbling skills into the box but Liverpool’s defense denied him a chance to score. Several threats in the first half from the attacking squad of the Reds but no goal.  The Notable lost chances in the first half for Liverpool were from Firmino’s poor touch which cost them a chance to score and Mohammed Salah who found himself in a one-on-one chance with Darlow but he couldn’t beat Darlow with his shot which ended up in a corner for Liverpool. Newcastle’s’ defense did well to prevent attacks from Firmino, Mane, and Salah. The first half ended in a barren draw.

The second half was promising for the league leaders with many chances to score. Sadio Mane’s header from a corner kick went wide. Another great opportunity for the reds came in when Firmino dribbled past Newcastle players to give  Salah a great pass but Mo Salah shot wide. Firmino missed another chance from a corner kick which he heads wide.

Liverpool was the better side in the attacking force but all their efforts were denied by Newcastle’s strong defense that gave their all to ensure they share the spoils with the league leaders. Karl Darlow displayed a great performance in the match to ensure that his team didn’t concede a goal. This is a season of sharing and that is exactly the result of the match.

The results leave Liverpool at the top of the table with three points more than Manchester United who close the year in the second position. Newcastle will finish the year in position 14 on the table with 19 points one behind Arsenal.
