Background Information:

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), in collaboration with the University of California, San Francisco is setting up a new Study, DTG study which aims to evaluate the impact of Dolutegravir (DTG) on patient weight over time as well as metabolic dysfunction. It will assess these indicators in patients newly initiating on DTC as well as those switching from other regimens.

The study will be conducted in Homabay and Migori counties and has the following vacancies to be filled; Study Coordinator (1 Position)

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery or Nursing with at least 2 years relevant working experience

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain daily oversight of study implementation within timelines
  • Coordinating the study team to ensure proper implementation of the study activities
  • Working collaboratively with ART clinics to identify patients starting or switching to DTG for study recruitment
  • Evaluates patients for inclusion/exclusion in the study according to the study protocol
  • Oversee and actively participate in data collection for the study including survey administration, biometric measurement (height, weight, blood pressure), and fingerstick or venipuncture (when the laboratory technician is unavailable)
  • Works with site ART clinicians and nurses to synchronize follow-up study visits with scheduled clinic visits
  • Takes lead in training and supervising the functions for the Research Assistant(s) and other applicable facility personnel supporting study activities
  • Ensures participant privacy and confidentiality are maintained
  • Evaluate participants with critical laboratory values and ensure appropriate triage and linkage to clinical services
  • Compiling study recruitment progress and regular reports and updates
  • Reporting suspected or confirmed protocol variances with support from the regulatory team
  • Developing and review of applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to be used in the study while consulting with the PI
  • Oversee and monitor study budget expenditure
  • Maintain relationship with collaborating partners and the Ministry of Health
  • Works in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability and integrity

Required Experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience within a busy HIV prevention/care program, preferably in a supervisory role
  • Clinical research experience or strong interest in management of none-communicable diseases strongly preferred

Other Required Skills

  • Be duly registered by the relevant professional body where applicable
  • Hold a valid practicing license where applicable
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: Effective in both oral and in written communication and reporting
  • Fluency in Dholuo strongly preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff members across all cadres
  • Natural ability to multitask, problem solve and work with others to resolve challenges
  • Ability to develop and in depth understanding of study goals and its implementation
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work in a team, with good interpersonal skills
  • Independent judgment and resourcefulness, understanding of the local social and geographical landscape as well as the community required
  • Must be willing to work in rural remote settings of Suba, Mbita, Uriri and Rongo sub-counties with extra hours and long-distance travels
  • Computer literacy a must
  • Ability to ride a motorbike (with valid driving license) will be an added advantage
