Sheffield United have been flying high since their promotion to the premier league in 2009 finishing their first season after promotion on position9 with 54 points, but this season has been challenging for them. Sheffield had only managed to get 2 points out of their previous 17 games. The blades finally managed to get their first 3 points of the season from their game with Newcastle united.
Sheffield United dominated the game with more than 4 shots on target and commanding ball possession. Newcastle’s drawbacks started when Ryan Fraser was booked for his hard tackle on John Fleck, a few minutes later he was sent off after being shown a second yellow card for committing a foul on David McGoldrick of Sheffield United in the 44th Minute of the match.
Sheffield United were awarded a penalty in the 73rd minute after a VAR check for a possible handball by a Newcastle player in the box. Billy Sharp scored from the spot giving the home side a lead over the 10-man Newcastle and eventually a much-deserved win for The Blades.
Karl Darlow performed really well to deny the home side several chances of being on the score sheet, but his efforts couldn’t give the visitors a win. The result gave Sheffield united 3 points to take their tally to 5 but they are still at the bottom of the table whereas Newcastle maintained their position 15 with 19 points from 17 games played.
