Kazi Mtaani is a national initiative, the first launch was in April 2020. The aim of the programme is to cushion the most vulnerable youth living in informal settlements from the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy. The initiative is aimed at recruiting unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled youths in the new programme that was open for registration from Friday 19th November 2021. The programme, which started with a budget of Sh10 billion, employed 283,210 youths in 900 informal settlements across the country’s 47 counties.

Principal Secretary for State Department of Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga said the recruitment process will kick off on Friday 19th November 2021. The implementation of the programme will be in more than 900 informal settlements across all 47 counties.
